Project Description
The conversion of the Grade II Listed Baines Wing was initiated to house the University’s new School of Healthcare Studies.
The extensive refurbishment provides 20 state of the art seminar rooms, lecture theatre, dedicated computer cluster and common room / coffee bar area all overlooking an inner courtyard, previously infilled by a variety of small buildings. The provision of kitchen facilities and a suite of reception / interview rooms also benefits The Great Hall, an income generating venue adjacent to the Baines Wing.
The façade of the building was essentially unaltered however, to provide maximum gross internal floor area and create a flexible space, three entire floor levels were removed and the insertion of four new floors was undertaken.
