Project Description

CJCT was commissioned to facilitate the relocation and expansion of The University of Sheffield’s Department of Musicology into two separately distinctive yet integrated buildings. The Jessop Building is the refurbishment of the old Jessop Hospital for Women.

The sensitive design involved reinstating and repairing many of the existing features as well as adding brand new elements, transforming the Grade II listed building into teaching and practice accommodation for the School of Music.

Improvements include a new entrance to the rear of the building and bronze cladding, which will age with time to further complement the colours of the original building. The new entrance will minimise disruption to the existing building and create a modern architectural focal point both internally and externally linking into the masterplan for the Jessop West campus.
