Project Description

Leeds Nuffield Hospital is one of the most technically advanced independent hospitals in Europe. It provides 165,000 sqft of patient focused in and out patient accommodation. Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher worked closely with Nuffield Hospitals over four years, from initial site viability appraisal though Planning Consent, User Group liaison, tender and construction. As the Contractor’s architect, we provided ongoing monitoring of quality, technical and design issues.
The tight brownfield site, dictated an unusual hospital design of a single linear building with accommodation arranged from 9 -11 storeys in height, with a glazed atrium main entrance and two levels of ‘managed’ basement parking also provided. Installing the latest MRI and CT scanning facilities, AV linked theatres and state of the art Stryker theatre systems made the design complex.
A bespoke interior design scheme of therapeutic properties of colour usage was developed for each department and artwork and sculptures commissioned by Nuffield Hospitals play a particularly important role both inside and outside the building.
