Construction is underway for our Forest Road student housing scheme in Walthamstow. Once complete, the 17 storey building will span over the Victoria Line tunnels, running directly underneath the site just outside Blackhorse Road station. The 6 metre vertical and 3 metre horizontal no-build zone around the tunnel required some clever bridging solutions for the structure. CJCT together with structural engineers Westlakes and Birkbeck have developed a design that utilises a steel frame and lightweight cladding to minimise loadings on foundations. Working closely with our client Watkin Jones, we will be delivering 350 high quality student bedrooms on the site. This design provides a great example for maximising the potential of constrained sites and successfully developing above TfL infrastructure.
